Mogul Skiing News: 10/24/07 Ski Sundown Strengthens its Commitment to Mogul Skiing
NEW HARTFORD, CT - Connecticut locals' favorite
has recently strengthened their commitment
to providing
with Sundown's Mountain Operations Manager,
Chris Sullivan earlier this week. Blasko provided feedback about last year's mogul offerings, and Sullivan responded with some promising
intentions for this season.
As reported by Blasko, Sullivan said that they plan to seed their bumps a little tighter on their pre-built
bump runs, Nor'Easter, allowing for quality zipperlining. He also said they'd like to seed the bumps on Nor'Easter further down the
trail for a longer overall run. Aside from Nor'Easter, Sundown occassionally seeds bumps on Temptor and skiers' right on
Exhibition.
Another improvement Sundown skiers can expect this year is wide dispersal snowmaking to refresh the bumps whenever possible,
rather than knocking the tops off the bumps or grooming them out.
Air junkies will be pleased this season, as Sullivan noted that
he wouldn't be opposed to building a kicker or two in the seeded bumps as the season progresses. Not many areas offer well-constructed
kickers on bump runs, so Sundown may become a hot place for recreational bumpers to practice mogul aerials.
Finally, Sullivan reported,
they would be willing to pursue the idea of hosting an amateur mogul competition, an event sure to draw many of New Englands' finest
mogul fanatics. The comp would likely be held on Temptor, due to the appropriate pitch and length for a bump course.
Overall,
the message Chris Sullivan had to report is very positive for the sport of mogul skiing. Seeing a direct commitment from ski area
managers is one of the keys to furthering appreciation for and participation in the sport. Sullivan is leading the way, setting the
standard for other New England ski area operators.
